GURUS’ GUIDANCE

Lay it right. Root it deep. Keep it green.

Healthy lawns start underneath.

  • Remove weeds and debris, then add 100 to 150 mm of good topsoil.

  • Rake level, create a slight fall away from buildings.

  • Lightly firm the surface with a heel shuffle, then rake again for a fine tilth.

Get turf down the right way, right away.

  • Lay within 24 hours of delivery.

  • Stagger the joints like brickwork and butt edges tightly without stretching.

  • Work from planks to protect the surface and water each section as you go.

Keep roots alive while they knit.

  • Water every morning to deliver roughly 10 to 15 mm.

  • Pay extra attention to edges and sunny spots.

  • Avoid foot traffic. At day 10 do the gentle tug test. If it resists, roots are taking.

Mow little and often for dense growth.

  • First cut when grass reaches 5 to 6 cm. Trim to 3.5 to 4 cm.

  • Use a sharp blade and never remove more than one third in a single cut.

  • Change mowing direction each time to prevent grain and scalping.

Turf is a living product and should be laid as soon as possible after delivery – ideally within 24 hours. This ensures it roots properly and establishes a healthy lawn.

A simple yearly rhythm that works.

  • Spring: balanced feed and light aeration.

  • Summer: slow release feed, steady watering in the morning.

  • Autumn: high potassium feed, scarify and over-seed thin areas at 20 to 30 g per m².

  • Winter: keep debris off, avoid water-logging, let the lawn rest.
