Turf Watering Schedule
Proper watering is the most important step in helping newly laid turf establish strong roots. During the first few weeks, your lawn relies entirely on consistent moisture to survive and thrive.
New turf has a reduced root system because it has been freshly harvested. This means it cannot draw deep moisture from the soil straight away. Careful watering ensures the roots grow downward and knit into the soil properly.
Follow the schedule below to give your lawn the best possible start.
Watering Schedule for New Turf
The First 2 Weeks:
Water once or twice daily depending on weather conditions. Keep the turf consistently moist and avoid letting it dry out completely. Early morning and evening are the best times to water to reduce evaporation.
The Next 3–4 Weeks:
Reduce watering to every other day. Begin watering more deeply to encourage roots to grow downwards into the soil. The turf should start to feel firmly rooted underfoot.
After 4 Weeks:
Water once or twice a week depending on rainfall. Increase watering during hot or dry weather. At this stage, your lawn should be established and continuing to strengthen.
